Paul Markland to retire from Orbital Marketing Services Group
Tuesday 18th November 2014
Long serving Managing Director of Orbital Marketing Services Group, Paul Markland, is stepping down after 42 years with the business. The 63 year old will leave on 23rd December.
The group is parent to Rushden based fulfilment company Orbital Response. It moved into its 100.000 sq. ft. complex on Express Park in 2001. It also has a Call Centre in Kent.
Markland joined the company at its inception as BP Travel Trade Services then based in Folkestone, in 1972 and had various customer service, sales and operational roles before becoming General Manager and then, in 1989, Managing Director. The company relocated its head office to Ashford in 1991.
In 2001 he masterminded the formation of BP’s parent company, Orbital Marketing Services Group, and took on a second role as its Managing Director. He has directed Orbital’s diversification into a multi-sector, multi-skilled group which included Orbital Response’s formation and now employs over 500 people across nine sites and ten businesses.
Paul said, “I’ll be 64 next year so the time has come to slow down a bit. I’m proud of having been part of broadening BP Travel Marketing Services into the successful Orbital Marketing Services Group. I’ve got a great team at Orbital and I’ll be sad to leave them and company behind at the end of December but it is time to enjoy some less-pressured days and new challenges whilst I still can!”
Orbital Marketing Services Group was acquired by Menzies Distribution in November 2012.
Markland’s replacement is Robert Fallow, 55, who has operated at board level in sales, marketing and general management for FTSE 100 and privately owned companies throughout his career. He is currently Managing Director of Vets Now and his previous roles include UK Marketing Director for Reebok, Group Director of Marketing at Orange and Managing Director of Franklin Electronic Publishers.
